NATO Summit – Meet at Sixth Grace Presbyterian

Second Presbyterian Church will be closed Friday, May 18 through Monday, May 21
for the NATO Summit. Members and friends are invited to worship on Sunday
morning at Sixth-Grace Presbyterian Church (35th and Cottage Grove) for 11:00
a.m. worship.

Mother’s Day Service

On Sunday, May 13, Second Presbyterian Church will host a worship service
honoring all women, beginning at 11:00 a.m. The Men’s Association will host the
service,
providing ushers, greeters, liturgists, and serving a special coffee hour
reception afterwards. All women in attendance will receive a small gift. The
sermon by Dr. David Neff will be on “The Eloquent Testimony of Love”, based on
John 21: 15-17. Special music by Wood, Vaughn Williams, Gounod and Rutter will
also be included in the service. All are welcome.

All You Can Eat Pancakes!!!!

The Men’s Association will host it’s monthly Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 12 from 8:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m. For a donation of $5, a delicious, full breakfast is offered. Fair Trade coffee, tea, cocoa and chocolate will also be available for purchase. All are welcome.

Second Presbyterian Church will celebrate Mother’s Day with a special concert on
Sunday, May 13 at 3:00 p.m. A group of Chicago opera singers will present a
tribute to Zinka Milanov, the renowned operatic soprano. Music by Verdi,
Bellini, Bizet, Thomas, Cilea, Donizetti and Puccini will be performed in the
acousticly perfect sanctuary of historic Second Church. Tickets are $20 at the
door or can be purchased in advance through the event website for $18. See:

Good Shepherd Sunday

The children and youth of Second Presbyterian Church will serve as ushers, greeters and worship leaders tomorrow at the 11:00 a.m. morning worship service. All the texts and music refers to the theme of God as our “Good Shepherd” and our call to shepherd each other as members of the flock. The service will include special organ and choral music by Bach, Rutter, Goodall, Shelley and Wilson.

Earth Day Celebration

Second Presbyterian Church will observe Earth Day with a special service of worship on Sunday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. Dr. Neff will preach on “A Love Story”, uplifting God’s love for creation and our human responsibility. Special music by the Second Church Quartet will include: “The Heavens Are Telling the Glory of God” by Beethoven and “For the Beauty of the Earth” by Rutter. After the service, join us for fellowship hour and Fair Trade coffee.

The Resurrection of the Lord

Morning worship at Second Presbyterian Church will be a festive celebration of music to honor the resurrection of Jesus. The sermon by Reverend Dr. David Neff is entitled “The Dance of Resurrection.” Special music will includes organ pieces by Langlais, Gall and Widor, plus choral anthems and solos by Beethoven, Miles, Mozart, Martin and Handel. The service will begin at 10:45 a.m. All are welcome.
