Good Friday “The Seven Last Words of Christ”

A solemn musical observance of Good Friday will be held in the sanctuary of Second Presbyterian Church on Friday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. The Second Church Quartet, under the direction of Michael Shawgo, will be accompanied by musical guests in presenting Theodore Dubois’ moving “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” Guest soloist include Kimberly Jones, Terry Herman, Cornelius Johnson and Kirk Walker. All are welcome to this inspiring musical service of remembrance.

Palm Sunday

Second Church will celebrate Palm Sunday at 11:00 a.m. with a triumphal
procession waving palm branches and crosses as we are led into the sanctuary by
the Quartet and children of the church.  Special music will include “Ride On
King Jesus” and “The Holy City”.  The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be
celebrated. We will also dedicate our offerings to the One Great Hour of
Sharing.  Please join us and begin Holy Week with this service to remember the
passion of Jesus.

The Women’s Association of Second Presbyterian Church is hosting a special worship service this Sunday, March 11 at 11:00 a.m. “Celebrating The Gifts Of Women” will feature worship led by the women of the church. The guest preacher is Walterene Johnson. Her sermon is entitled “Hagar’s Struggle– God’s Deliverance”. All are welcome.

The Men’s Association of Second Presbyterian Church will host a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 10, from 8:00-11:30 a.m. A donation of $5 includes pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, milk and coffee. Come and meet your neighbors! Free tours of the sanctuary are included in your donation.

Lenten Bible Study

Second Presbyterian Church will host a bible study on “Prayer and Healing” each Wednesday night during the season of Lent. The study will begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude by 7:30 p.m. Topics to be discussed include prayer, spiritual healing and physical curing and the healing of relationships. Each night will conclude with prayers for the healing of our world. All are welcome.

Ash Wednesday Service, 7:00 p.m.

The season of Lent begins with a solemn service of worship on Wednesday,
February 22 at 7:00 p.m.  The Second Church Quartet, under the direction of
Michael Shawgo, will present solos and choral anthems.  Dr. Neff will preach on
the theme:  “A New Beginning”.  The traditional imposition of ashes will be
offered, and the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated. All are
welcome.

Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

Second Presbyterian Church will host its annual “Martin Luther King Jr.” worship service on Sunday, January 15 at 11:00 a.m. A service of lively music is planned, with special music provided by the Ghanian Congregation Choir and the Second Church Quartet, under the direction of Michael Shawgo.  The Children’s Choir will sing “We Shall Overcome”.  The service will conclude with the traditional singing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.  All are welcome.
